Padding conversion kits:
These may be desired if you already own a FlyPad Tray configured for an older iPad, and wish to keep the same FlyPad Tray, but upgrade the padding thicknesss to those appropriate for iPad Pro 10.5″ or Air 2 (these two iPads are the same thickness), or to the iPad 9.7″ or Air 1 (these two iPads are the same thickness).
There are two bracket types for the FPTs, and your padding conversion kit is tailored to that model.
Type A for is for a FPT 737(NG or Classic) which has “Angled” edges on the side brackets, such as in the photo below. Also note the straight cutout slots:
Type B is for the FPT 737s that have “Block” shaped side brackets such as in the photo below. Also, note the “Universal” cutouts that are not straight cut:
26FEB16: These kits are available now for purchase from this website, as well as from Crew Outfitters. The cost is $8 plus shipping & handling, and comes in a light weight flat envelope mailer.
The FlyPad Tray is one of the most highly innovative, simple, secure, light-weight and low-profile Class 1/Portable/Viewable Stowage EFB retention devices ever designed and produced. It was designed by pilots FOR pilots, and is professionally manufactured in the USA with the highest grade materials. It is designed to be used interchangeably on either the Captain or First Officer’s side. We currently have FlyPad Tray (FPT) EFB retention devices for the B737, B747, and the B787 Dreamliner. Within each fleet, we have at least two options. One to accommodate caseless or bare tablets, and one to accommodate tablets that are in cases up to 20mm/0.787″ thick .
Q: “If we change/upgrade tablet types at our company, do we need to purchase a new FlyPad Tray?”
A: NO. The ‘grip’ within the FlyPad Tray (FPT) is achieved by using a high-quality, special padding that we stock in five different thickness. By merely replacing/adding existing padding with the thickness appropriate for your newer tablet, you avoid having to purchase a new FPT. We stock upgrade kits appropriate for each tablet type, and sell them for a very nominal cost.
Q: “What’s so special about your padding?
A: It is certified by the manufacturer to meet US Federal Motor Safety Standard 302a, and is rated as “Self-Extinguishing/No Burn Rate”.
Additionally, it is UV resistant, die-cut, and though tighly adhered to the FPT, can be removed and replaced cleanly with thicker or thinner pieces as necessary to achieve the appropriate fit. See the options/models note below
Three options, nine models for the B737 :
Option 1) Tablet-specific, with padding for caseless or bare tablets (e.g.: “FPT737 Pro 10.5″/Air2 for those tablets, or others for the iPad 9.7” (2017, non-“Pro”), Air 1, as well as for a MS Surface RT, 2, 3, or Pro 2 without a case. We also have a compact (2 cm shorter) model listed with a “KLM” suffix, such as: FPT 737KLM Pro 10.5/Air 2).
Note: the iPad Pro 12.9″ is too long for the B737 side windowsill in either portrait or landscape orientation.
Option 2) For tablets in cases up to 20mm thick (e.g.: OtterBox, Targus, Decoded,…). Models include: “FlyPad Tray 737 for Cases”, “FlyPad Tray 737KLM for Cases” (a landscape-only compact model), and “FlyPd Tray 737MS for Cases”, which is for Microsoft Surface RT, 2, 3, or Pro 2 with the battery pack/keyboard protective case.
Option 3) For those who have or want to use a Pivot Case ™, and take advantage of having an articulated mount attached to our FlyPad Tray design. This model is the FLYPAD737-PIVOT. The mount is included, but the Pivot Case is purchased separately from FlyBoys.com .
Q: “Does it matter if I fly in B737 Classics, NGs, BBJs, or P-8/C-40s?”
A: NO. The new cutout design accommodates all four known spring clip designs and window sill options. See photos below.
Four options, seven models for the B747:
Option 1) Tablet-specific, with padding for caseless or bare tablets (e.g.: “FPT747 Pro 10.5″/Air2 for those tablets, or others for the iPad 9.7” (2017, non-“Pro”), Air 1.
Option 2) For tablets in cases up to 20mm thick (e.g.: OtterBox, Targus, Decoded,…). Models include: “FPT747CS” for tablet use in portrait or landscape orientation, or the shorter, “Compact” model “FPT747CCS” which offers the more clearance for the pilot, but limits you to a landscape-only orientation. This is our most popular B747 model.
Option 3) “FPT 747CE” or “FPT747CECS” (Compact-Elongated cutout) for Cases. The same as the 747C or CS models, but for the rare situation where you have a spring clip that is 4.5″ tall (non-standard), this is the model that you will need. See the photos below.
Option 4) “FLYPAD747-PIVOT”. For those who have or want to use a Pivot Case ™, and take advantage of having an articulated mount attached to our FlyPad Tray design. The mount is included, but the Pivot Case is purchased separately from FlyBoys.com .
Q: “What series of 74s does this fit?”
A: Any series that has the window sill with the spring clip. See photo below.
Three options, several models for the B787: These are side-specific (e.g.: CA for Captain’s side, and FO for First Officer’s side).
Option 1) Tablet-specific, with padding for caseless or bare tablets (e.g.: “FPT787CA or FO3S Pro 10.5″/Air2 for those tablets, “FPT787CA or FO3SE extended/wide tablets like the MS Surface).
Option 2) For tablets in cases up to 20mm thick (e.g.: OtterBox, Targus, Decoded,…). Models include: “FPT787CA or FOCS3S” for tablet use in portrait or landscape orientation,
Option 3) “FLYPAD787CA or FO-PIVOT”. For those who have or want to use a Pivot Case ™, and take advantage of having an articulated mount attached to our FlyPad Tray design. The mount is included, but the Pivot Case is purchased separately from FlyBoys.com .
See photos below.
1) The iPad Pro 10.5″ has the same thickness as the iPad Air 2, will fit into any FlyPad Tray (FPT) previously branded as the “Air 2″, and the iPad 9.7” has the same thickness as the iPad Air 1, so it will fit in any (FPT) branded for the iPad Air 1.
2) The iPad Pro 12.9″ is too long to fit in the FPT737 or FPT747s in either portrait or landscape orientation.
2) The “Rotating Option” seen in the video, which was sold separately by Joby.com, is regretfully no longer manufactured. It does not come included with the FlyPad Tray. The purpose of that segment of the video is to demonstrate how those who have a case with a rotating feature, can take advantage of that feature in the FlyPad Tray.
Important note about padding choices: An iPad 3 or 4 will not fit with the padding for an iPad 2, however an iPad 2 will fit somewhat loosely with the padding for an iPad 3 & 4. Additionally, if you already have a FPT 737-2, and are reissued iPad Air or Air 2 (thinner than an iPad 2, 3 or 4), it will still fit in your FPT, but loosely. If you desire to keep the same ‘grip’, you merely need to purchase a replacement set of padding for that tablet. We stock and sell padding upgrade kits for a very nominal cost. B737 side window sills & spring-clip types that the FPT fits:
B737 NG & BBJ clipboard and spring clip.
FPT 737. This is the model for bare tablets, where the suffix (-2, -3 & 4, -Air 1, or -Air 2) would indicate which tablet is intended, and define which thickness of padding are used to offer a ‘firm’ grip/retention.
FPT 737KLM shown on Left, and FPT 737 (-2 thru -Air 2) on right. Note the FPT 737KLM is shorter (1.625″/ 4 cm), maximizing clearnace to the pilot. While this limits you to a Landscape-only option, it offers the maximum clearance from the pilot’s arm.

FPT 747 for Cases. This design fits both the CA as well as the FO side, and accommodates tablet cases up to 20mm thick. For thinner cases, thicker padding can be chosen to offer the preferred ‘grip’/firmness of retention.
The FPT 747 on the left fits B747-200 thru -800s and is renamed merely “FlyPad Tray 747”. The FPTC on the right is 2 cm shorter, and while limiting you to landscape-only orientation, affords more space for the pilot.
A closer photo of the cutouts. The “CE” on the left is for spring clips that are 4.5″ tall. The “C” on the right is for standard 3.5″ spring clips.
Non-standard, 4.5″ spring clip shown compared to a FPT 747 with a standard cutout on an not-yet-powder coated FPT. Red markings equate to the “CE” cutout.
B787 Dreamliner side window sills & spring-clip types that the FPT fits:
FPT 787 clears the Class 3 EFB, EROS mask, and the tiller. This is the FPT 787 CA AAL. Note this model has two brackets (forward and bottom).
This is the FPT 787CA Three Bracket for Cases. Thought the EROS mask appears obstructed from this angle, it is unobstructed.
Access to the EROS mask is still afforded. There is vertical as well as aft clearance not shown in the angle.
